As the leader of Booker T. and the MG's, the house band for Stax Records, Booker was the Hammond player on many of the seminal soul recordings of the 1960's. He recorded with Otis Redding, Wilson Picket, Albert King, and Sam & Dave among others. Under his own name, Booker is known for a number of Hammond classics: Green Onions, Hip Hug-Her, Time is Tight, and many more.
In February of 2007 Booker T. Jones was awarded the lifetime achievement award at the 49th Grammys.
Booker T & the MGs - Green Onions:
And here and
here are some sappier '60s version of Green Onions
(a video, and a segment from
Hollywood a-Go-Go).
As far as I can tell the Hollywood a-Go-Go segment is lip-synced (well it would be if there were any lyrics) --- I think Booker T is
"playing" an empty road case or something.
If you want to see how much times can change in four years, after you've checked out all the "groovy" 1960s videos linked above,
check out this live recording of Time is Tight from 1970.
And for something more recent, here's another "Green Onions" from 2003.
