The driving gears are brass gears mounted on the main drive shaft of the ToneGenerator. The driving gears are connected to the drive shaft through resilient CoilSprings to dampen the irregularities in the gears. There are twenty four driving gears, one for each pair of ?DrivenGears. It is the integer GearRatio between the driven and driving gears which generate a very close approximation to the equal tempered scale.
